Company
Established in 1879, the Barton 1792 Distillery is the oldest fully operational distillery in Bardstown, KY. It’s situated on 196 acres and has 29 barrel aging warehouses. The distillery was named in honor of the year Kentucky joined the United States.
Production
The Single Barrel expression of 1792 is picked from the best warehouses on the Barton 1792 Distillery property and is usually only available at stores that participate in the private barrel program.
Nose – 93/100
This has a deep and rich nose with hints of oak, caramel, vanilla, and banana.
Palate – 94/100
The palate carries over notes from the but with a touch of cinnamon and more vanilla. It tastes almost like a graham cracker.
Finish – 93/100
The finish starts with a kick of rye spice then fades quickly.
Value – 90/100
I love 1792 Single Barrel, but it’s not that much different from the standard 1792 Small Batch expression and costs roughly $15 more ($45 rather than around $30). If you love 1792 and find Single Barrel in a store, it could be worth a try, but it’s not $15 better than Small Batch in my opinion.
Verdict – 92.5/100
We score each bourbon based on nose, palate, finish, and value.
Scoring System:
- Platinum – 95+
- Gold – 90 – 94
- Silver – 80 – 89
- Bronze – <80
