Company
Buffalo Trace is arguably the most well-known distillery on the planet. Its lineup includes the likes of Pappy. E.H. Taylor, Blanton’s, Elmer T. Lee, W.L. Weller, and more.
Production
According to their site, Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. is one of the most well-known names in bourbon. Following the Civil War, he purchased O.F.C. Dstillery and developed innovative techniques that are still used today. E.H. Taylor Small Batch is made by hand and aged in century old warehouses constructed by E.H. Taylor, Jr. Barrels are carefully selected to create this bourbon’s distinctive flavor.
Nose – 95/100
Incredibly sweet with immediate hints of vanilla and caramel.
Palate – 92/100
The palate is oakier but still has faint hints of caramel and vanilla and is very balanced.
Finish – 90/100
The finish is short with hints of leather and oak and a light burn. It leaves a little bit to be desired.
Value – 90/100
This is a crowd-pleasing, easy-to-drink bourbon at 100 proof. But similarly to other allocated bourbons from Buffalo Trace, the prices are rising quickly above MSRP. I got my bottle for $70 and have seen them go for $100+. I think it belongs in the $50 ballpark like Eagle Rare.
Verdict – 92/100
We score each bourbon based on nose, palate, finish, and value.
Scoring System:
- Platinum – 95+
- Gold – 90 – 94
- Silver – 80 – 89
- Bronze – <80
