Produced by Jeptha Creed Distillery, this bourbon leans heavily into its use of Bruce’s Blue heirloom corn, a proprietary varietal developed by the Nethery family and grown on their farm. The deep blue label, emphasis on heirloom grain, and farm-to-glass positioning all suggest this might be a dramatically different kind of bourbon experience. Add in a mashbill of 75% Bruce’s Blue corn, 20% malted rye, and 5% malted barley at 100 proof, and it would be easy to expect something highly unusual or experimental.

Corn sweetness.  Dry corn.  Honey.  Dry oak.  Earthy undertones.Strengths:  Corn sweetness arrives immediately and feels slightly more concentrated than a traditional Kentucky bourbon.  Corn is supported by honey and dry oak.  A pleasant earthy undertone sits underneath and adds a rustic quality without becoming distracting.  Have some patience with it in your glass and it will reward you with deeper, more focused notes.Why It’s Not Higher:  While enjoyable and inviting, it largely stays inside a familiar Kentucky bourbon lane. Sweetness feels slightly elevated compared to a traditional Kentucky bourbon.  Nothing feels sharp, disconnected, or out of place.

Herbal rye spice.  Light oak.  Lingering warmth.  Faint & refreshing tartness.Strengths:  Settles comfortably along the sides and back of the tongue where there is a lingering and pleasant tingly spice that doesn’t cross over into sharp or tiring.  Light oak impression in the background.  Avoids bitterness or drying oak entirely.  Subtle sour note appears late and feels more refreshing than distracting.Why It’s Not Higher:  Lingers more through spice sensation than evolving flavor which keeps it from becoming especially memorable or layered.Rating Justification:  Satisfying finish that complements the Palate well.  Closes out the sip with a natural bourbon feel.  Feels complete.  Leaves you wanting to return to the glass for another sip.
