Company
Lux Row Distillers is located in Bardstown, KY, a.k.a the bourbon capital of the world, and was named after the distinct row of trees on the historic property. They also produce Rebel, Blood Oath, and David Nicholson bourbon.
Production
According to their site, Ezra Brooks is distilled and aged the old fashioned way, then charcoal filtered for a smooth, mellow finish.
Nose – 92/100
Very traditional nose with caramel, vanilla, wheat, and a hint of candy corn.
Palate – 88/100
The sweetness from the nose doesn’t carry over entirely to the palate. Initial notes of caramel, oak, and rye spice fade into soapy cereal grain.
Finish – 90/100
Long finish with plenty of spice and hints of caramel and oak. There is some lingering cereal grain, but it’s not as much as the palate.
Value – 88/100
Ezra Brooks Cask Strength is in line with other offerings in its class at $50-$60, but I honestly don’t plan on purchasing another. It may be that I got a bad barrel, but the store pick I had was very underwhelming.
Verdict – 89.5/100
We score each bourbon based on nose, palate, finish, and value.
Scoring System:
- Platinum – 95+
- Gold – 90 – 94
- Silver – 80 – 89
- Bronze – <80
