Production
The Decade Series II from Heaven’s Door Spirits is a meticulously crafted 10-year-old rye whiskey, which marks the second release in the revered Decade Series.
The creation of this distinctive blend involves the selection of numerous 10-year-aged whiskeys, which are combined to create a rich, full-bodied whiskey.
It’s bottled at 100 proof, delivering a gratifying depth of flavor and warmth. The decade-long maturation process in oak barrels lends a deep amber color to the whiskey.
Heaven’s Door Decade Series Release #002 Review
Heaven’s Door provided us with a sample for this review.
Nose – 3.75/5
The nose is has classic rye features with a touch of Tennessee Whiskey. It starts with heavy rye and bread then moves into dry baking spice with a hint of caramel.
Palate – 4/5
Upon tasting, the whiskey presents a rich and mellow profile, with a surge of black pepper and oak. As these flavors settle, robust notes of toasted marshmallow and caramel take center stage, providing balance for the earlier spice.
Finish – 3.75/5
The finish starts with a pronounced spiciness, which gradually gives way to flavors of toasted marshmallow and dark chocolate. This transitions into a long and lingering finish, allowing the nuanced flavors to resonate.
Value – 3/5
This is a really solid rye. I thoroughly enjoyed how it maintained a classic rye profile while also giving off the sweeter Tennessee Whiskey notes.
The listed MSRP of $100 is the only thing I think could be problematic. Once you’re in the $100 range, you’re all of a sudden competing with some of the best whiskey out there. And while Heaven’s Door Decade Series #2 is really good, it doesn’t particularly stand out for me at that price-point.
