Who They Are
Blanco, Texas seems to be a hotbed for distilleries. Located in Blanco, Milam & Greene Distillery has earned a strong reputation for high-quality whiskey and innovative expressions.
Their philosophy revolves around creating unique, and exceptional whiskeys which they feel reflect the Texas spirit. With the release of this Edition Five, the mash bill has remained consistent across all the Editions.
The extremes of the Texas hot summer and cold winters contribute significantly to the flavor profile of each Milam & Greene whiskey.
The distillery is well known for its community involvement and philanthropic efforts. A portion of each Distillery Edition 5 sale is donated to Panhandle Proud, which seeks to aid Texas farms and ranches that were devastated by wildfires. Panhandle Proud lists many Texas distilleries as its benefactors, signifying a truly cooperative effort among competing distilleries.
Distillery Edition 5 is only available through the Distillery. Because a limited number of bottles were released, this is likely a hard-to-come-by expression.

Milam & Greene Distillery Edition 5 Bourbon: Tasting Notes
Nose – 3.5/5
Rich and inviting, the aroma scores with notes of chocolate, pecans, coffee, and a bit of syrup. The rich, inviting and complex aroma sets high expectations for the tasting experience.
Palate – 3.75/5
On the palate, Milam & Greene Distillery Edition 5 offers a deeply grain-forward experience. Getting initial flavors of lemon drops, cinnamon and black pepper this expression follows through on the high expectations set by the Nose.
Finish – 3/5
A very very long finish with notes of chocolate and cinnamon spice. As the flavors slowly fade, a touch of tangy fruit and a gentle spice, leaving a rather odd aftertaste. I cannot get past the odd aftertaste, it just does not leave me enthusiastic for the next sip.
Value – 3/5
The $140 price point puts Milam & Greene Distillery Edition 5 at a premium offering and targeted at enthusiasts and collectors. I get the significance of a limited release and that it is fifth in the line of annual releases. I also love the idea that part of the sales goes to help area farmers and ranchers devastated by the Texas wildfires.
For an occasional sipper, I don’t see the value. For a put on the shelf trophy piece, I suppose there is a premium that is worth paying. If that’s your thing then take my rating with a grain of salt.
