According to their site, Redemption’s goal is “enabling a new generation to discover America’s original favorite rye-forward whiskey.” They hope to do this through their rye-forward bourbons and whiskeys.
Production
As you can likely guess at this point, Redemption’s bourbon has a good bit of rye in it. At 21%, it’s significantly more than most $30 tier bourbons. Buffalo Trace, for instance, is said to be 10% (or less) rye. The additional rye in the mashbill increases spiciness and adds a bit of character.
Nose – 87/100
Super weak and subdued with hints of honey and caramel.
Palate – 88/100
Initial heat from the rye fades into a sweet wheat, nutty profile that tastes a bit thin and watered down. I didn’t expect it to be as thin as it tasted considering the rye content.
Finish – 90/100
Short with a little kick from the rye. The sweet wheat carries throughout leaving a nice taste in your mouth.
Value – 87/100
The price is great at just under $30, but there are countless other bourbons I would opt for at the same price point. There isn’t anything inherently wrong with Redemption Bourbon, I just think it just tastes a bit too watered down. But if you’re looking for a super easy to drink bourbon, it definitely has a place on your shelf.
Verdict – 88/100
We score each bourbon based on nose, palate, finish, and value.
Scoring System:

- Gold – 90 – 94
- Silver – 80 – 89
